After Anthony and Joe Russo’ Avengers: Endgame was released in 2019, I was lucky enough to explore the visual effects of this massive film in several online articles at befores & afters. A number of stories were published, breaking down the character work and major battles.
In anticipation of Avengers: Doomsday, Endgame has been re-released theatrically as an extended version, known as Encore. This seems like the perfect time for befores & afters’ own kind of encore publication relating to Endgame to come out, for the first time in magazine form.
In this special issue of the magazine, I’ve collected the various pieces of visual effects coverage about the 2019 film, where I spoke with production visual effects supervisor Dan DeLeeuw and production visual effects producer Jen Underdahl, as well as visual effects vendor supervisors from the studios I was able to speak to at the time: Weta Digital, Digital Domain, Framestore, Industrial Light & Magic and Lola VFX.
