This issue starts with an exploration into making Superman fly and the various techniques used during shooting and by the visual effects studios. Then we dive into the character work required for Krypto the dog, which required close matching to Gunn’s own dog as reference. This is followed by a look at the effects in the Fortress of Solitude, including new 4D gaussian splat technology utilized for holograms there.

The making of Metropolis is next, including the creation of the Hammer of Boravia battle. Next, Superman’s fight against a giant Kaiju is broken down. More effects discussion happens with a look behind the scenes of the Pocket Universe created by Lex Luthor, including the anti-proton river. That’s followed by an examination of Mister Terrific’s oner scene. Finally, we take a look at the duel between Ultraman and Superman, which also features The Engineer.

Led by visual effects supervisor Stephane Ceretti and visual effects producer Susan Pickett, the team included visual effects studios Industrial Light & Magic, Wētā FX and Framestore. Visualization was handled by Day For Nite and The Third Floor. Character, LiDAR and prop scanning was carried out by Clear Angle Studios. Hologram capture was done by Infinite-Realities.
