The stuntvis behind that stunning oner in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’

March 18, 2024

A look at how stuntvis works, and how the team crafted it for the ‘No Sleep til Brooklyn’ sequence.

This week on the befores & afters podcast, we’re diving into the world of stunt previsualization, sometimes also called stuntvis. We talk to stunt coordinator and second unit director Wayne Dalglish, and to action designer and stunt previs artist Christopher Clements.

They’ve just started their own outfit in this area called Sandbox Action Design.

In this podcast, we talk about just what goes into previsualizing an action scene, including one they were heavily involved with for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3, which was the spaceship hallway oner, set to the tune of the Beastie Boys ‘No Sleep til Brooklyn.’

Don’t forget to check out previous coverage of the film at befores & afters here, including on that scene.

Below, listen to the podcast, and watch the actual stuntvis and also stunt rehearsal videos. A VFX breakdown from Wētā FX is also there.
