How Charlize Theron survives the Australian wilderness.
Today on the befores & afters podcast, we’re chatting about the film Apex, which is currently streaming on Netflix. This is the survival thriller where a woman goes into the Australian bush and ends up being hunted by a ruthless local. There’s a ton of rock climbing and kayaking in the film, which required some extensive and invisible visual effects work.
In the podcast, we chat to Apex visual effects supervisor Enrik Pavdeja. First we chat about that treacherous opening Norway Troll Wall sequence. Then we jump into the challenges of filming in the Australian wilderness, and acquiring all the things necessary to do VFX work. We also chat about the methodology behind shooting and executing the kayak scenes, and how that long rock wall climb at the end was achieved.
Listen in, above.
