The creatures of ‘Keeper’

March 4, 2026

A fascinating story about extending and augmenting and enhancing practical creatures on the film.

Today on the befores & afters podcast we’re chatting about the film Keeper, by director Osgood Perkins. You might know Osgood’s work from his previous films such as Longlegs and The Monkey. In the podcast, we chat to Edward Douglas, production visual effects supervisor and, to Jenn Taylor, Image Engine’s visual effects supervisor.

A fascinating side of this indie horror film is that it was filmed largely with only practical make-up effects work for the creatures. In post, following the success of Osgood’s other movies, it was decided to ramp up the creature effects in several ways. Here, we find out about Image Engine’s role in delivering several CG enhancements and also fully digital creatures.

Check out the podcast above. Below, watch Image Engine’s VFX reel, and see a selection of images from Image Engine, too.
