How on-set scanning of environments and actor capture works

January 21, 2026

Clear Angle Studios discusses photogrammetry booths, LiDAR scans and other capture on big projects.

Today on the befores & afters podcast, we’re chatting with Clear Angle Studios US Head of Capture, Brian LaBrec. It’s highly likely you will have seen Clear Angle’s photogrammetry booths or Lidar teams in behind the scenes featurettes or even actor selfies. The company is responsible for scans of actors, locations, and props on many of the big productions. These include, recently, Wicked: For Good, Superman, and Stranger Things season 5. Brian talks about some recent efforts, plus how he got started in the capture industry — there’s some really cool stories about learning the ropes on Jungle Cruise and other films.
