Over at the VFX RETRO EXCLUSIVE Patreon, some fun notes from visual effects supervisor Scott Squires, who at ILM worked on The Phantom Menace (celebrating its 25th anniversary right now). Scott once talked to me about the duel between Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Darth Maul, and here’s some fun notes just about those opening and closing energy doors at the end of that duel. He was worried that the minimal set might come across as looking too CG…here’s what he shared.
