Today on the befores & afters podcast, we’re talking to visual effects supervisor and Disney Imagineer Tim Landry.
Tim is now retired from the industry but he has a large history and body of work that includes films supervised while at Dream Quest Images, and then later working on theme park attractions as an Imagineer.
One thing we dive into is his work on The Crow, which is 30 years old this year. We talk about the special VFX work Dream Quest completed after Brandon Lee sadly died in an on-set shooting accident, using different takes to place Brandon in scenes he had never been able to film.
I highly recommend watching Tim’s own self-made memoir documentary called ‘Shoveling Pixie Dust: a Memoir’. It’s a very open and honest look back at key points in his career, including the good times and the difficult times, including when Dream Quest, which had become The Secret Lab, was bought and the later shuttered by Disney.
I think this chat is interesting given the current state of VFX, and Tim has some sage advice for artists working today in the discussion.
