Jump into the world of models and miniature effects filmmaking in the latest issue of the magazine.
Issue #15 of befores & afters magazine has just been released. It covers the world of miniatures and models, and you can get right now at Amazon.
befores & afters magazine has evolved quite a lot since I started it during COVID. One thing that perhaps was always a bit of a challenge was getting images in the mag to shine in that slimmed-down ‘portrait’ style. And, indeed, it was nagging at me a bit.

So, I’ve made the big decision to turn it into a landscape magazine (but still in a slim-line format). This means you’ll be able to experience widescreen images in a MUCH better way.
The other change is with the Kindle e-book edition. Previously, this was a ‘replica’ version of the print magazine. But, it was never that easy to read on a Kindle that way. So, I’ve made the e-book version reflowable. That means it’s a breeze now to digest it on a mobile or tablet (or Kindle) device. The trade-off is being able to show large in this format, but all the pics are still there in each e-edition.

This month is a fun issue of befores & afters which takes a look at the state of play of models and miniatures in VFX. There’s pieces here on a range of new projects (Quantum Leap, I’m A Virgo, House of the Dragon) and several old-school ones (Alien, Batman Returns, True Lies, Air Force One). There’s a really fun breakdown of InCamera’s Alien miniature ship 3D resin print. And a look at miniature effects for indie films. Plus, we pay homage to 32TEN Studios, which had to close its doors recently.
A big thanks to Reallusion for sponsoring issue #15.

Hope you enjoy the new format and this fun edition! You can find it at Amazon stores around the world. Here’s a few store links, but make sure you try your local one.
