Want to learn how ‘The Dinosaurs’ was made? Watch these featurettes

Rare glimpses inside ILM, and a look at the stuffies, practical builds and VFX work.

For an in-depth look at the making of The Dinosaurs, the nature documentary series streaming on Netflix, take a look at Netflix’s Tudum site.

Three featurettes on Tudum go into detail, including the visual effects work:

Watch How The Dinosaurs Created T. Rex’s Ankylosaurus Kill – this explains how the team at Mangostone built a life-size Ankylosaurus model for shooting scenes of the T. rex dragging its kill through a forest. The full-scale model was built for interactive moments.

Watch How The Dinosaurs Filmed Long-Extinct Creatures in Real Locations – this is my fave featurette, since it involves a look at the stuffies built for shooting dino sequences.

Watch How The Dinosaurs Team Re-Created Prehistoric Life – this featurette goes inside Industrial Light & Magic’s London office to showcase dino builds and animation. There’s footage of dailies scenes (check out ILM’s Hyperdrive streaming set-up) and of artists at work.
