Today on the befores & afters podcast we’re talking about The Umbrella Academy. The VFX team behind the final episode ‘End of The Beginning’ has been nominated for a VFX Emmy – this is for Outstanding Special Visual Effects In A Single Episode.

We chat to production VFX supe Everett Burrell about the creature work in the episode, which largely deals with the characters Ben and Jennifer mutating into creatures. They eventually merge to become the Cleanse. That work was all crafted by Folks VFX.

There’s a lot of fun detail here about design, the shoot involving on set capture suits, using a giant inflatable chrome ball during filming, and about the approach to animation.

Listen in above, and check out Folks’ VFX breakdown below.
