Behind the scenes with Proof.

Yesterday we brought you Cinesite’s visual effects breakdown for Road House, plus a look behind the scenes at the fight sequences and the VFX behind them.

Today we’re showcasing a postvis reel by Proof for the film. This is a step after shooting where Proof crafted an array of temporary VFX shots, composites and post-visualizations. It’s often done to help visualize what the final scene will look like, both for editorial, and to aid in creating the final VFX shots.

Here, Proof outlines the work, and check out the reel below, too.

Visualization studio Proof, under postvis/comp supervisor Theresa Rygeil, had a team of artists working for five months on the film Road House. Their scope of work encompassed 139 postvis shots that ranged from subtle enhancements to major sequences. Among these, the Boat Chase sequence, comprising 93 shots. Here, Proof executed sky replacements, background additions, and set extensions, weaving a tapestry of explosions, boat chases, and fights on the water. They integrated these elements, from crashing boats to sprawling bridges, into the fabric of the film.

For the UFC fight sequences, Proof removed safety gear and stunt team members bringing excitement and adrenaline to the scenes. Proof’s creative team worked primarily with VFX producer Lauren Ritchie and her predecessor Jenn Scheer, alongside associate VFX producer Aron Anderson and VFX editor Dan Lyons, to bring the director’s vision to fruition.
