Planned and unplanned VFX shots, and some you may not have noticed at all.
Today on the befores & afters podcast, we’re chatting to visual effects supervisor Edward Douglas about Longlegs. This is the Neon horror film directed by Osgood Perkins, starring Maika Monroe and Nicolas Cage, that kind of took the world by storm recently. It’s very much not a VFX film, but it has some great invisible visual effects work.
Spoiler warning here, but we do talk about one particular scene – an important scene – involving Nic Cage’s character. And we dive into some of the demon imagery, and the use of VFX for things like muzzle flashes and blood hits. Perkins has even on the commentary for the home release of the film discussed additional invisible effects work, such as removing some of Monroe’s earrings, and adding text to some papers that one of the agents rifles through.
In the podcast, Ed and I also discuss his own beginnings in the industry and a long stint where he worked in video games and cinematics. That cross-over that’s been happening in games/VFX/virtual production is an area we cover, too.
